Gay men are pretty damn good at identifying and defining themselves through pop culture, even winkingly. It's our great pastime to pick and idolize one particular character or celebrity from a TV ensemble or music group. Growing up, I knew I was a Wakko (Animaniacs), a Christine McVie (Fleetwood Mac), and a Barbara Cooper (Valerie Bertinelli's character from One Day at a Time -- reruns used to air on E!). And today I'm celebrating that self-identification in this edition of Weeklings! with a little help from my friends Guy Branum, Bryan Safi, and Jeffery Self.
Watch as we each choose a personal Beatle, Sex and the City dame, Queer Eye guy, and Fanta flavor girl. Will yours be different? Probably. And hopefully. For your sake.
We call ourselves the Gay Beatles, and we're taking our talky efforts to LA's Upright Citizens Brigade tonight (Friday, June 29) at 8 p.m.
If you like what you see in this episode of Weeklings!, you should join us. If not, you're such a Charlotte.
