Casinos: Now In Your House | Scholarspride.com

Gambling and casinos have had an intimate relationship since the modern age. Gambling has always been there since the history of mankind but initially it was the market place or the local taverns where this kind of activities was carried out along with other things. Dedicated gambling zones came much later only when people started portraying it as not only a way to make some money but as also a means of entertainment. The relationship between casinos and gambling has been around from the time when the people in this business added the entertainment aspect to the gambling joints too. They made it a conscious effort to turn the gambling idea from that of a money making tavern indulgence to one of the most glitzy and glamorous activities in which the rich and the famous of the world would be interested to be a part of. The fact that they have succeeded in doing so is evident from the fact that the casinos in the legendary Las Vegas area are now known all over the world and have achieved a level of popularity unseen with such gambling joints. There are people who travel across the globe to the area to be a part of this world.

?

With the advent of the last decade or so, a lot of changes have undergone in the world around us. There have been a lot of technological changes that has led to making this world a more comfortable place to live in for the humans. The amount of technology that has been put to use in the recent years is unseen in history and can only be compared to the Industrial Revolution. One of the better things that have been put to use is the computers and the internet which connects all computers from across the globe. This two has made it possible that a lot of things changes in our daily life and this include the way we entertain ourselves.

?

Gambling from the casinos suddenly shifted to online gambling and each day more and more people were attending these virtual casinos on the internet and the business that these casinos made had easily gone past the traditional land based ones. The casino websites offer all kinds of games that are available in the land based casinos. And the best part about them is the ease of access which led to a lot of casual gamblers to log in and start playing. People loved the idea of being able to gamble and make money from the comfort of their couch. However, there are so many casinos on the internet that for any single casino online to make a difference in the market it must come up with a number of extra attractions.

?

The fact that a something different needs to be done has led to the formation of the concept of bonuses. There are casinos that provide the players with bonuses in cash and kind for clearing various levels of game play. Some even have tutorials in things like poker tricks to attract a large number of the clientele.

Death Valley used as stand-in for Martian landscape (+video)

A project scientist for NASA's huge Curiosity rover is leading a handful of journalists on a trip to Death Valley, whose geology and vistas resemble Mars in some places. The goal is to help reporters get a better idea of the science Curiosity will be doing when it touches down on the Red Planet on the night of Aug. 5.

The chief scientist for NASA's newest Mars rover mission is heading to Death Valley today (April 30), and SPACE.com is going along for the ride.

Skip to next paragraph Agency readying a robotic rover that will search for life on the red planet.

Caltech's John Grotzinger, project scientist for NASA's huge Curiosity rover, is leading a handful of journalists on a two-day trip to the famous patch of California desert, whose geology and vistas are remarkably Mars-like in some places.

The goal is to help reporters get a better idea of the science Curiosity will be doing when it touches down on the Red Planet on the night of Aug. 5.

We depart from the Caltech campus here at 8 a.m. local time (11 a.m. EDT; 1500 GMT) today, and should roll into Death Valley about four hours later. Unlike frigid Mars, Death Valley will be hot for the next couple of days; we've been told to bring sunscreen, wide-brim hats and lots of water.

Curiosity, the centerpiece of NASA's $2.5 billion Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) mission, blasted off in late November and is slated to land at the Red Planet's Gale Crater in less than 100 days. [Photos: Curiosity's Gale Crater on Mars]

The 1-ton rover's main mission is to determine if the Gale Crater area is, or ever was, capable of supporting microbial life. Curiosity will use a suite of 10 science instruments to get at this question, including a rock-zapping laser and gear designed to identify organic compounds ? carbon-based molecules that are the building blocks of life as we know it.

Some of these instruments sit at the end of Curiosity's five-jointed, 7-foot-long (2.1-meter) robotic arm. The arm also wields a 2-inch (5-centimeter) drill, allowing Curiosity to take samples from deep inside Martian rocks. No previous Red Planet rover has been able to do this.

Before Curiosity can begin its science work, however, it must land safely ? not a given for any planetary mission, and certainly not for MSL, whose huge bulk necessitated the invention of an entirely new landing method. Curiosity will be lowered to the Martian surface on cables by a rocket-powered skycrane, with cameras rolling all the while.

George Zimmerman MySpace Page Reveals Legal Problems, Possible Racism

An old, long-unused MySpace page belonging to George Zimmerman contains apparently racist comments and casts light on his history of legal problems.

Zimmerman, who faces second-degree murder charges for killing Trayvon Martin, makes disparaging comments about Mexicans on the 2005-dated page.

He also referred triumphantly to his escape from legal troubles stemming from his confrontation with law enforcement officers, among other matters.

The page, which was confirmed as authentic Wednesday by Zimmerman’s attorney Mark O’Mara, also mentions a 7-year-old domestic violence incident.

Zimmerman, 28, gained national notoriety when he shot and killed Martin, 17, in Sanford, Florida, on February 26. He was not charged at the time.

The case has sparked racial tensions around the U.S., as Martin, who was unarmed, was black. Zimmerman has a white father and Hispanic mother.

Martin’s family and supporters claim he was a victim of racial profiling, while the former neighborhood watch volunteer claims he acted in self-defense.

On the old MySpace page, called “onlytobeakingagain,” Zimmerman uses the name “Joe G” and discusses leaving his hometown of Manassas, Va.

He muses on how much he misses his friends, then vveers into a slang-filled rant, with many words misspelled, about Mexicans who lived in the area.

Zimmerman writes:

“I don’t miss driving around scared to hit mexicans walkin on the street, soft (expletive) wanna be thugs messin with peoples cars when they aint around (what are you provin, that you can dent a car when no ones watchin) don’t make you a man in my book.”

“Workin 96 hours to get a decent pay check, gettin knifes pulled on you by every mexican you run into!” he adds, providing no details about these incidents.

This, of course, has little, if anything, to do with the facts of the Martin case, but it does offer an interesting window into the mind of the defendant.

Martin family attorney Benjamin Crump said Wednesday that be believes prosecutors could use Zimmerman’s MySpace comments against him.

“It’s not just speculation and innuendo. He has a history and a habit of profiling people,” he said. “He thinks certain things about certain racial groups.”

George Zimmerman Free on Bail

A statement posted on a Zimmerman defense site run by O’Mara concedes that the comments “will cast Mr. Zimmerman in a less-than-favorable light."

O'Mara even concedes it could be used as evidence in the case. His statement says there will be no comment on the MySpace statements for that reason.

The second post mentions a legal battle with an “ex-hoe,” likely a reference to a 2005 incident in which a girlfriend accused Zimmerman of attacking her.

He was not charged in that case, and on the blog post, Zimmerman writes that the woman “tried her hardest, but the judge saw through it!”

Zimmerman’s wife testified at his bail hearing in April. during which he apologized to Trayvon Martin's family, that her husband told her he was actually defending himself in that incident, not the other way around.

A recent photo of Zimmerman's bloody head may bolster his claim that he acted in self-defense during the Martin incident, which he maintains.

The Plight of People with Albinism ? Skin Cancer Rates | Jason Poe

Plight ? A dangerous, difficult, or otherwise unfortunate situation

As I learn more about the plight of Tanzanians with albinism, I feel the term ?plight? is not quite harsh enough. ?Yes, PWA?s (persons with albinism) lives are filled with dangerous, difficult, and unfortunate situations, but those terms don?t bring enough weight and gravity to the issue. ?Let me explain their situation so you can understand what I mean.

Epidemic Rates of Fatal Skin Cancer

  • In East Africa, nearly 1 in every 2000 people is affected with albinism. ?In North America and Europe, this number is 1 in 20,000.
  • These East African PWA?s are very susceptible to skin cancer because of the lack of pigment in their skin.
  • Most PWA?s in East Africa do not have proper clothing or sunscreen due to the poor economic conditions surrounding them.
  • The life span for a PWA in Tanzania is 30 years.
  • Only 2% of PWA?s in Tanzania live beyond the age of 40.
  • In contrast, the life expectancy of PWA?s in places of adequate healthcare is nearly the same as the general population.

These statistics are humbling. ?It?s amazing that meeting a simple need such as providing sunscreen or proper clothing can increase the life span of a PWA. ?It?s not right that needs this small would keep children from living past the age of 30.

Unfortunately, these epidemic rates of skin cancer only touch the surface of the challenges facing PWAs. ?Check back again as I will continue to explain the plight of people with albinism in East Africa.
